Al the Internet traffic is controled by numerical adresses (IP names). Try, for instance, to type int 64.239.90.34 in the web browser and you'll get www.ysi.net.
A DNS or domain name server is a single computer with software and databases that converts (searches) the alphanumerical adress like www.ysi.net to the numerical adress like 64.239.90.34. DNS servers communicate each other in order to solve requests.
Your domain must be registered in DNS to let other people and computers to enter trough the alphanumerical adress. The same DNS must indicate in its databases in wich IP adress is your website and in wich mail server your mail will be sent to. |
