Some people think that www in www.midominio.tld (tld=top level domain – dominio de nivel superior) is a part of the domain name. That's not true. In this case, www is the name of the "www" computer in the domain midominio.tld.
When you type in www.midominio.tld in your web browser, you are requesting a web service in a specific computer connected to Internet. But it could also be called zzz, w2, data, www2 or whatever you want.
The reason for that all computers with web servers are usually named aswww is just because that means this computer has a web server software on it. The computer adress is then the same as the web adress if the computer is a web server. A single computer can have several names and belong to several domains, and for that reason one web can have several adresses. Several webs can also be hosted in the same computer.
http:// doesn't belong to the domain name, also. Http means Hypertext transfer protocol and is written to tell the browser what has to request the software at the web server in the computer whit which is connected to Internet. Most of the search engines automatically add http:// in front of the web adress if one doesn't do it. |
